Text to Sail is a volunteer-run text-message service, operated by Text2Sail, that helps Port Townsend small-boat sailors organize outings. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

What we collect

Your mobile phone number, when you text us to subscribe.
The display name you choose, which other subscribers see on sails you post or join.
The messages you send us and the messages we send you, so the service can work out what you meant and keep a record of delivery.
Your Discord user ID and name, only if you use the club Discord channel or link it to your phone number.
Your preferences, such as paused notifications or opting out.

How we use it

Only to run Text to Sail: to send you announcements of sailing outings you subscribed to, updates on outings you join, and replies to your messages. Other subscribers see your display name (never your phone number) on outings you post or join.

What we don't do

We do not sell, rent or share your phone number, opt-in consent or personal information with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties, except the service providers below that are needed to deliver the service.

Service providers

We use a small number of providers who process data only on our behalf:

Twilio, to send and receive text messages.
Discord, for the club channel, if you use it.
Anthropic, to interpret free-form messages such as "going out at 5:30 tomorrow".
Fly.io, which hosts the service and its database.

Keeping and deleting your data

We keep your information while you're subscribed. Text STOP to stop all messages at any time. To have your number, name and message history deleted, email henryrose@gmail.com and we'll remove it. We keep only the record that you opted out, so we never text you again by mistake.

Children

Text to Sail is intended for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above. Questions: henryrose@gmail.com.
